Calmness is one of the most powerful energetic states we can access.
It is here where being and becoming are not separate. in these moments our inner state of being is coherent enough to recognize that we are already embeded in becoming. This means that the inner and outer world start to reorganize themselves around intentionality, the inherent expression of the life-force that is purpose-driven. Intentionality is the source of true orientation and leads us into increasing connection and authenticity.
Calmness is where creation begins.
Yet this state is not always immediately available, as many of us grew up in environments that were not consistently safe, attuned, or supportive. Out of necessity, we organized ourselves around survival, learning to foreclose authentic aspects of our expression in order to protect attachment and secure parental love. From a NARM perspective, these adaptations become relational and identity-shaping strategies aimed at maintaining safety, preserving connection, and managing perceived threat in both our inner and outer worlds.
Over time, this adaptive intelligence consolidated into what we experience as our personality.
But it can also distance us from the deeper ground of our being and from true state of calmness. These adaptive strategies constantly seek for moments of safety by engaging in these emotional and behavioral patterns. Yet, calmness can never enter the subjective experience in that way.
From this place, our intention, hence how we orient our attention, usually comes from lack, fear, or limitation. We then come from internal states that seem to orient us but which are not connected to our authentic core. Naturally, we cannot access deeper states such as calmness, when we operate in this way. Not because something is wrong with us, but simply because the our system has not yet had the conditions to really rest in a holding environment. When this safety in our early upbringing was missing, states of calmness are foreclosed for us.
This is why relational safety is essential is the prerequizite for states of calmness for us as adults.
As safety increases, the nervous system begins to soften. The constant orientation toward threat relaxes. Slowly, we gain the capacity to sink beneath adaptation and touch something more fundamental. Calmness is not created; it is returned to when the system no longer has to defend itself.
True calmness is a state of brain–heart coherence. When the nervous system settles and the heart leads, our electromagnetic field becomes more ordered and clear. What we radiate is no longer urgency or control, but alignment with our deeper nature, the movement of becoming beneath survival strategies.
This is why calmness is not passive.
It is creative.
In calmness, we stop reacting to life and begin shaping it. Desire no longer comes from tension or compensation, but from knowing. We are not forcing outcomes, we are allowing what is already in motion to arrive.
Calmness is a biological advantage. It changes our chemistry, which changes our emotional world, which changes how reality meets us. Our energy expands. Our field strengthens. We influence our environment in ways that may be invisible to the eyes, but deeply felt in the body
This is why calmness is a gateway to receiving. Receptivity in it’s puerest form is enbodied surrender. Surrender is often misunderstood as passivity or giving up, yet it is neither. It is not losing control, but releasing resistance. It is the willingness to stop bracing against life, internally and relationally, and to create space for what we most deeply long for to arrive.
Much of what we have learned tells us that we must work, strive, or process endlessly in order to arrive somewhere better. But there is another way. As safety and capacity grow, we begin to land in calmness and realize that nothing essential is missing. From this place, we do not effort our way forward, we abide. We allow. And things come.
From my experience, intention carries its greatest power when it arises from this state.
This is why intention-based therapeutic processes, such as in NARM, are so powerful. The process supports the gradual return to safety and coherence, inviting clients to land in their deep wish as an expression of their true nature. The work itself carries an energetic potential, and the journey feels less like effort and more like arrival
And when we learn to stay calm, we become available not only for what we desire, but for what has been waiting for us all along.
